What days do you run?
TUESDAY 630PM | Maroubra 5K
WEDNESDAY 630AM | Speed Sesh
THURSDAY 615AM | Clovelly 5K or Soft Sand Sesh
SUNDAY 8AM | Malabar 10K or Maroubra 7.5K
PARKRUN
We’re also at Centennial parkrun every Saturday morning for the 5K timed community run at 7AM. Just make sure you’re registered with parkrun to take part in the free event and have your barcode saved somewhere on your phone/watch/body. We meet near the big tree at about 650AM and head to The Greenhouse afterwards for coffee.
BENNY HALF
As a legacy of the 2023 Sydney Marathon – because call us cray cray but we LOVED the training so much – we run 21.1K on the first Sunday of every month to keep us in tip-top long distance shape. We call it the Benny Half, named after the seal that hangs out at the Opera House [our halfway marker]. You can check out the route on Strava, while we take off from the Old Coogee Pier at 7AM.
Where do you meet?
On Tuesdays you’ll find us on the White Steps at Coogee Beach
On Wednesdays we meet in front of the public toilets on Baronga Avenue in Queens Park
On Thursdays and Sundays catch the crew at the Old Coogee Pier at Coogee Beach
How long do your sessions last?
A 5K is about half an hour, a 10K is just over an hour and our Speed Sesh is around 30 minutes. Plus time for dips n’s sips of course.
How fast or fit do I need to be?
The Coogee Run Club is for all paces and all faces and we encourage everyone from beginners to speedsters to get on board. Our runs through Coogee feature out and back routes and pit stops along the way and we always meet up at the finish line so no one gets left behind. Forewarning though, it is Coogee and that means hills so be prepared to push yourself and we promise you that you’ll get stronger and better each run!
What pace do you run at?
Our Tuesday trot features four pace groups: Speedy Squad [under 5.00MIN/K], Rocket Runners [5.15MIN/K], Tempo Team [5.30MIN/K], Cruisie Crew [6MIN/K], & Jolly Joggers [6.30MIN/K+]. Same route, same distance, same mountainous challenges but the tempo is up to you!
Our Thursday and Sunday run features two pace groups: 530MIN/K & 6MIN/K+.
Do you have a beginners run?
Keen to run with us but feeling a bit nervy about the distance, pace or hilly route? Well we got ya with our monthly Newbies Night on the second Tuesday of the month. It’s a 3K run to South Coogee featuring plenty of pit stops along the way to breathe, regroup and take in those epic east coast view. The event coincides with the regular 5K run and finishes with our monthly post-run Sweaty Bevvies at the Coogee Bay Hotel.
How do I join your runs?
Literally just turn up ready to run! There is no sign up needed.
Is there a cost to take part?
At the Coogee Run Club, we don’t believe in membership fees or registrations because we know the best things in life are free. Fitness, friends and fun. So just show up when you can and promise us you’ll give it your all!
Is there somewhere to leave my bag?
For non-valuable items, that you’re happy to leave unattended and at your own risk, our members drop their bags off at:
Tuesdays: the White Steps next to our flag
Thursdays & Sundays: the big step down to the beach between the Coogee Rainbow and the Old Coogee pier
Wednesdays: outside the changing rooms in Queens Park
What if it rains?
Rain, hail, shine or hangover, the Coogee Run Club always goes ahead!
What if I’m injured or just don’t fancy a run?
As we say, we’re less of a run club and more of a social club with a bit of running on the side. So if you’re taking time off to heal, dealing with a hangover or just don’t feel like running, come for a walk or our post-run social!
TUESDAY 7PM | Join us for a $10 street box or $12 bowl at Fishbowl on Coogee Bay Road
THURSDAY 650AM | Don’t skip out on a dip n’ sip at Morning Glory Cafe
SUNDAY 9AM | Meet up with the crew for a swim and brekkie at Morning Glory Cafe
You said something about bevvies?
Heck yeh! On the second Tuesday of the month we wrap up Newbies Night with post-run Sweaty Bevvies at the Coogee Bay Hotel. Pull up a seat and find out what your running buddies have to say when they’re not puffing up a Coogee hill!
Can I join if I’m just in town on holiday?
Abso-run-lutely! As a club boasting a huge number of overseas expats, we wouldn’t expect anything less! We also know the importance of balancing those holiday cocktails with a run or two, so join us for a trot and the chance to meet some legendary locals.
I hear there’s a WhatsApp group?
The best way to keep in the know is in our awesome WhatsApp chat where you’ll find motivating messages, a healthy dose of peer pressure, deals for race entries, photos from all the runs, and just a general awesome vibe. It is the place to be! And I promise you, we can’t tell if you put us on mute.
For the link, all we ask is that you fill out some T&Cs, so we got your back and you got ours. Just slide into our DMs on Insta or Facebook for the link
How can I get my hands on some cool Coogee Club merch?
Fact: Wearing a Coogee Run Club shirt will make you run faster. Jump on over here to pick up a tee, tank, crop top, sports bra, socks, cap, drink bottle, and hoodie!
Are doggos welcome?
A four-legged friend is a best friend at the Coogee Run Club and we whole-heartedly encourage all well-behaved canine companions so long as their pawrents follow the council rules regarding dogs on leashes and picking up after your pet.
